Day 8

Welcome to day 8. There is a little progress. Not as much as I would like but..well you will see.

I got almost all of my flowers bordered by the darker purple. I had 3 of the connected but then discovered that it wouldn't work out right with only the two light purples and the darker one joining them all together. So I took them apart and went to Joann's to get some black fabric. (I did have some black but the fabric was to thin.) Tomorrow I will start cutting out more hexagons so I can get back on track with this.

I have a question for those of you who have made this quilt before. How do you put it together? Make all the flowers then join them or put it together in strips (like put together the top row then row two...and so on). I am finding it kind of odd to put together the flowers once there made. Any tips?

Today my other 2 packs of Paper Pieces came in from Paradise Quilting. I love these things! I plan on buying different shapes so I can try other projects. But first I really need to get to work on this one. I know cold weather is just around the corner...I hope!
I also bought a nice pen to trace with! It takes about a minute for the ink to dry but I think its going to work out. It is a Clover White Marking Pen. Do any of you use this pen? How do you like it? I got it 40% off at our new Joann's.

I am trying to find something to do while making this. What do you do while cutting out fabric? Listen to music? Watch tv? Let me know.

Well its getting late. I think I will watch tv with the old man and go to sleep. Have a great night/day everyone and keep on sewing!

Day 4

Welcome back! I'm glad to see you again! I have made a little progress on my quilt. Let's get to it shall we?!

Well I showed my work to my grandmother (nana) and she said I should put another petal around it. I knew my greatgrandmothers has 3 petals, but I thought mine looked fine with just two. I guess I was wrong. lol

So when we went to Walmart we found another fabric to go with it and the color to attach all the flowers together.(not my nana's favorite but it is MY quilt.)

What did I get?....

The darker purple! I love it! The fabric I got to put the flowers all together is solid black. I haven't cut any of it out yet. Joanns opens tomorrow and i'm going to look there for something to mark dark fabric. (I picked up a silver and a white pencil at Hobby Lobby Monday..but they aren't working on this dark purple.)

Now the question is do I want to keep swapping the fabric patterns around like I have been including the new darker purple fabric..
OR do I want to swap around the other two colors like in the above picture and keep the darker on the outside.

OR do I pick one way of having the colors arranged for the whole quilt?

So many questions! What would you do? I need all the help I can get. I am willing to snip these apart and redo them.

Well now that I have gotten my self even more confused about what to do I think I am going to piece some more paper hexagons and not join any more together for a while.

Have fun sewing and don't forget to let me know your reading my little blog! Have a great day!

Welcome

Hello and welcome to my new blog. Here I hope to track my progress of hand-sewing my first quilt. I don't know how often I will post. But I hope to do it at least once a week.

The quilt I am doing is Grandmothers Flower Garden. I purchased some paper pieces from Paradise Quilting on Etsy and got them in the mail yesterday. As soon as I was in the house I ran to my room and started on my quilt.

The fabric I am using is from Walmart. I know most quilters wouldn't get there fabric from there. But Hobby Lobby was closed that day and I wanted to get my fabric right then. I am using two different purples. As for the color that will connect everything together I am not sure yet. I am going to get that later today.

So far I have gotten 3 flowers completed. I am swapping out which fabric is in the center. I think this will give it a good over all look. Want to see?

Now since I am new to this you might notice something I did wrong or something I don't know. If so please feel free to comment at any time! I would love input.

Well that's it for now. Add me to your RSS feed and look for another entry soon. Have a wonderful day.
